About Outage Power Planner
Outage Power Planner publishes free calculators and a sourced appliance wattage chart for people planning backup power at home.
What this site covers
Generator sizing, power-station and UPS runtime, running versus starting watts, and outage preparation. Every wattage links to its source, and every assumption is labeled so you can change it.
Who is behind it
Author: Lawson Graham
I'm an IT specialist who builds and supports the infrastructure that has to keep running: networks, firewalls, servers and the systems people rely on every day. I'm on the on-call rotation at my job and have worked overnight onsite recovery incidents, and I serve in the Army National Guard as a network communications specialist, so planning for outages and keeping communications up is part of how I work. I built this site to turn that backup-planning mindset into plain-English calculators and checklists for home power outages.
Background and qualifications: Tier 2 IT Support Technician at a managed service provider (since 2025), including on-call and after-hours incident response and overnight onsite recovery; previously IT Specialist and Help Desk Lead (2023–2025), managing servers, firewalls, networking and virtual machines; 25H Network Communications Specialist, Army National Guard (since 2020). I am not a licensed electrician, so nothing here replaces a qualified electrician or the manufacturer's instructions.
